Doha Airport

Lasting Impressions....

"Doha is on the face of it is a modern facility, but the people employed there are not a barrel of laughs to deal with.  I was completely shocked at the depth of their bad attitude, surliness and rudeness." (Zak)

"There have been considerable improvements over the past 18 months, the toilets are now presentable, seating has been increased and the food facilities improved. " (Big Tone)

"Doha airport makes Manila international look like the Ritz.  I will never again travel via Doha unless it is knocked-down, rebuilt and put under competent management. " (?)

A few airport reviews from the archives

"I found the Doha Airport to be very nice and comfortable. So far I've stopped three times there, with the longest being about 7 hours.
The airport is absolutely clean, very light and offers more than sufficient seating. There is also a quiet sleeping room with about 50 cushioned sleeping chairs.
All other chairs in the Transit area are cushioned with armchairs.
There are about 12 computer terminals with free internet access and you can use free WLAN access all over the terminal, although the WLAN connection is not too good.

All together I found Doha to be a above average airport, much less busy than Dubai and also more comfortable."

I have flown through Doha a few times. And it is not what it's cracked up to be. The Airport is basically two terminals a regular one and the First/Business Class Terminal (Where the privileged passengers on Qatar Airways get to be pampered from A to Z - so I've read!).

The lobby is clean and small making counters tight and sometimes troubelsome. However, the customs area has always been effecient. From there you are in the departure hall, which qiute frankly is a large big cube (which you can appreciate more form the outside). You find youself stuck in the duty free area and scattered around are some eateries which all in all is enough. Nothing Really special in terms of design.

The major waiting area On the second floor was large with enough seats, during the day time it is quite and empty, sleeping would prove effortless, however during peak hours it might not. I have seen many sleeping around and officials if any didn't seem to care much. The trick would be to find the right place with minimal intrusion. I would suggest at the corner near the Oryx lounge and the 'Costa Coffee'.

This was 2 years ago and I have not heared of any changes. Doha is another Middle Eastern choice for transit though not the best, not yet anyway!

"Currently stranded at Doha international airport in the Oryx lounge after my flight on British Airways was cancelled due to a strike in London, we are being rerouted via Nepal to London, nightmare.Doha, is one of the smallest airports I have transited through, the staff are un helpful and over official, we managed to get into the Oryx lounge to sleep, but the lights are on and you can't get to sleep. I can describe the experience as a nightmare journey to hell, people here are rude and unhelpful, I am never coming here again."
